Another karaoke special!
This time I’ve changed the words to “Bein’ Green,” a wonderful song by Joe Raposo for Kermit the Frog of Sesame Street.
Read it along with Kermit and the amazing Jim Henson. Can you muster Jim’s offhanded sincerity while still singing real notes in key? I couldn’t. It’s not easy! I had to sing it the regular way.
It’s not easy bein’ free, Having to spend each day in the shadow of the regime, When I think it could be nicer without all those psychotic laws, Or people who make up stuff like that. It’s not easy bein’ free. It’s hard to blend in with any ordinary things, And people tend to say we’re crazy, Cause we’re not cheering on Fiery rockets from a mortar, Or bombs in the sky. [Bridge] But free is the way of all things, And free is for foe and friend alike, And free has lifted generations from pestilence and squalor, Every time there’s been peace. When free is all there is to be, It will make us wonder why we’ve put up with this plunder, But I’m free, in my own mind. It’s catching on (sorta?), And I think it’s what we’re meant to be.
