Our link of consequence is a “pivot play.” We pivot on Jeff Deist by following him to another guest appearance, hosted this time by Buck Johnson, who recently pivoted from self-focused atheism to Orthodox Christianity.

They discuss how an economic principle called “high time preference,” stoked to a conflagration by the Federal Reserve’s Keynesian junkies, has wide-ranging consequences for society and culture, all of them bad—if you think tribalism and nihilism are bad, that is.

Brother Buck calls himself post-libertarian, when actually he has finally outgrown its juvenile form and wandered off without noticing the empty seat with his name on it at the grownups’ table. There is a lot of that going around, but we’ll have to talk about it another time. Buck is also a firefighter and a Texan with an adorable voice.

Jeff Deist is a regular fixture at the grownups’ table. Currently General Counsel for Monetary Metals, his background includes ten years as president of the Mises Institute and a stint as Chief of Staff for Congressman Ron Paul.
