I got barely a minute into the Tucker Carlson interview of Sam Altman, to where Carlson asked about the difference between lying and hallucination, and he did so with a tone like he didn't know/think there was a difference. And the fact that he asked that question right after Altman told him how the chatbot lacks its own moral agency was unintentional comedy, but of the frustrating variety. I turned off the interview.
When the LLMs made their big splash a year ago (or has it been two?), they unintentionally tipped the hand of Woke Tyranny. Normies had been rolling their eyes at woke absurdities but underestimating how insidious they had become and how much power the wokesters had amassed, because woke enforcement was operating with just enough plausible deniability and obfuscation from mainstream media.
Crystallizing these cultural norms in the form of an LLM that everyone could poke at and experiment on, without the media spinning one-off excuses every time, made it impossible not to see. People saw something very creepy: a *machine* was enforcing woke virtues. Whether this came from absorbing all our documents or from the guardrails applied afterward by tech companies scared of woke reprisals, it created a critical mass of people who could not unsee what had happened.
